Build campaign links and QR codes you can measure
Choose consistent UTM values, create a campaign QR code, and verify analytics on the destination before sharing or printing.

1. Agree on a naming convention
Use utm_source for the referring source, utm_medium for the channel, and utm_campaign for the campaign name. Write these choices down before generating links so that colleagues do not create several names for the same campaign.
Consistent lowercase values are often easier to manage, because differently cased values can become separate entries in analytics reports. Use utm_content to distinguish placements such as a header button and a footer link.
utm_source=newsletter utm_medium=email utm_campaign=autumn_launch utm_content=header_button
2. Build and test the destination URL
Enter the final landing page into UTM Builder, then fill in the campaign fields. Open the result and confirm that the page loads correctly and that required parameters survive any redirects.
Do not put passwords, personal data, or internal secrets in campaign values. They are part of a visible URL and may appear in logs and analytics systems. Keep campaign tracking off ordinary internal navigation so that it does not confuse attribution.
3. Turn the link into a static QR code
Use the UTM Builder's “Create a QR code for this campaign URL” link to send the finished URL into QR Code Generator. Download SVG for scalable print artwork or PNG for a raster image.
The QR code stores the URL directly. It does not expire through a QR vendor, but its destination still needs to work. A static QR cannot be edited after printing; use a stable URL under your control if the underlying landing page may change.
- Retain the white margin around the code.
- Scan the final artwork with a phone at its intended size.
- Include a readable URL or another way to reach the destination.
4. Verify that analytics records the campaign
UTM parameters label a visit; they do not install analytics or count scans by themselves. Make sure your destination's analytics setup records the campaign and respects its consent configuration.
Visit the link or scan the printed sample, then inspect the appropriate analytics report. Compare the result to your naming convention before distributing the campaign. A successful scan alone does not prove that attribution was recorded.
Before you finish
- Source, medium, and campaign names are consistent
- The destination works with all parameters
- The final QR artwork scans correctly
- An alternative readable link is available
- Campaign attribution is verified in analytics
